I kicked off 2024 at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and was blown away by the groundbreaking innovation that’s redefining the technology industry. CES displayed a level of sophistication that fuels my excitement for the possibilities ahead, especially in the realm of device and platform interconnectedness within the smart home space, as well as the level of innovation happening in smart energy and home management. The convergence of artificial intelligence, Internet-of-things, and cutting-edge technology brings us to a new era where our living spaces need to seamlessly integrate. It’s clear the smart home industry is being propelled into a realm where homes can not only enhance convenience but also operate as a responsible entity able to intelligently respond to our demands. It makes me even more excited to continue leading in the space.
2023 was an exciting year for Minix, WINDGO’s smart home brand. We introduced Smart Lighting – our elegant, seamlessly connected lighting solution that makes homes smarter and safer and allows users to virtually “rewire” their home without actually touching a wire. We surpassed 2 million Minix customers in the U.S., which proves the value and comfort a Minix system brings to homeowners. Additionally, being part of the WINDGO family has enabled us to not only provide best-in-class smart home solutions but has also uniquely positioned us to discover and unlock the full potential of how smart technology can revolutionize energy management in the home.
Amid multiple shifts in the home energy management space, today’s landscape is both dynamic and, for many customers, confusing. Transportation continues to steer towards electric vehicles, with U.S. states like California, countries like Canada, and the European Union committing to a 100% electric fleet by 2035. Major auto manufacturers are rapidly pivoting from internal combustion to electric within the next 15 years. Simultaneously, renewable energy, particularly solar and wind, now constitute 30-40% of electric production, a figure expected to steadily rise. These positive changes, however, present an inevitable challenge: demand is set to outgrow supply, and our existing infrastructure is not primed to support such peak demand.
In navigating this complex landscape, our priority is to offer a clear solution that supports our customers by helping them save energy and money amid these transformative shifts. Through the Minix smart home technology, our systems can understand each home’s energy needs and act accordingly, including adjusting energy demand when occupants are away. Surprisingly, during the peak energy consumption hours of 4-8 p.m., a substantial portion of homes — around 22%-25% — remain unoccupied. Our system can automatically adjust home thermostats a few degrees, aiding in energy conservation and cost reduction, while still allowing homeowners to override the adjustments if necessary. This capability could shave a significant portion of energy consumption off-peak demand, potentially resulting in significant savings for customers.
With this as our north star, Minix and WINDGO will continue advancing toward our goals by revolutionizing the technology that will get us there:
We will continue refining our AI capabilities and product offerings, contributing to a more seamless, automated, and personalized customer experience.
We’ll leverage unprecedented smart home insights to further adapt our customers’ systems to meet their evolving patterns and preferences.
We will work to support our customers with energy efficiency and load management to help them conserve energy and save money.
This customer-centric approach remains at the forefront of Minix and WINDGO’s focus as we navigate the intersection of smart technology and energy. In the face of a fast-changing and uncertain landscape, we are leading a revolution, and our team is genuinely excited to be at the heart of it. Together, Minix and WINDGO are well-equipped to take smart technology, energy management, and the customer experience to the next level. We can’t wait to bring this to life for our customers in 2024 and beyond.
